Use the public NHTSA vPIC decoder as a starting point for vehicle identification and case-specific weight research.

The lookup can populate basic identity fields and help organize the case vehicle library. Calculations should use verified case-specific dimensions and weights when they materially affect the result.
Evidence to document
- The complete VIN recorded from the vehicle.
- The decoded year, make, model, series, and body class.
- Measured or authoritative curb and loaded weights.
- Occupants, cargo, fuel, modifications, and attached equipment.
Limitations
A decoded VIN is not proof of the vehicle's collision-time weight or configuration. Verify material values against the inspected vehicle and authoritative records.
